We are very happy to welcome Gavin Milne to lead this one day retreat for Oxford Insight Meditation. The retreat will be a day of sustained meditation, supported by an atmosphere of silence. The day will include periods of sitting and walking meditation, meditation instructions, dharma teachings, and time for questions and sharing together. The day will include a lunch break of about1 hour. The retreat is suitable for beginners as well as those with experience of meditation practice. We ask that you commit to staying for the full day.

During this day retreat, we will explore a wholehearted but relaxed and allowing approach to meditation, as a balance to our often frantic and individualistic lives.

The Buddha’s teaching was radical, inviting us to question our norms and assumptions, and discover what truly frees our heart. Risking disapproval by going against the favoured approach of his time, he pursued a new direction. His discovery was a profound “middle way”, which took him beyond the slippery self-centred preoccupations of control and self-indulgence, and put an end to suffering altogether. For the Buddha, it was radical to become kinder and gentler with himself, and this may be true for us also. Through this, an uncontrived compassion emerged, which continues to flow through the world today.

Gavin Milne has been practicing the Dharma since 2004 and teaching since 2015. He is especially interested in the role and relevance of these teachings towards the individual, relational and societal transformations being called for in this era. And as such embracing and exploring practice in all areas of our life.
